THE FOG #01

This cover was a collaboration with Senior Editor, Steve Ekstrom, of Sumerian Comics on his new comic book series The Fog. It recounts a supernatural horror story that reconnects several surviving characters and their descendants from John Carpenter's original film, THE FOG (1980). Creating a variant cover where the protagonist confronts an intangible, malevolent force posed a unique visual challenge. Rendering the fog through a series of frenetic and alternating color harmonies resulted in a chaotic atmospheric effect in the lower third of the cover. Balancing that visual noise with the bleak and empty sky above the protagonist builds a visual tension of opposites, where the natural world is pitted against the supernatural, and alluding to the impending conflict of the known and the unknown as the series unfolds.
